OpenOffice

OpenOffice is a suite of office productivity tools that can work with Microsoft documents. It is available for use on rcf2.rhic.bnl.gov. To use OpenOffice, you need to set up your own personalized OpenOffice environment in your home directory. If you have not used a previous version of OpenOffice at the RCF, then follow these steps to set up your OpenOffice environment:

  1. Log into rcf2.rhic.bnl.gov from an X window capable terminal via Ssh.
  2. cd /opt/OpenOffice.org1.1.0
  3. ./setup
  4. Answer the questions asked in the windows that pop up. For the most part, the defaults are sufficient. However, when asked to "Select Installation Type" choose Workstation Installation. Do NOT choose "Local Installation".

If you have used a version of OpenOffice at the RCF prior to this time (that is a .sversionrc file exists in your home directory) and the version number is the same as the as the version number on RCF2, then you will need to deinstall the old OpenOffice version before installing the new one.

Additional documentation for OpenOffice can be found on the OpenOffice.org web site.
