Ssh Gateways Status

The Ssh gateways are one of the network " doors " to the RCF facility. In order to access the computational and storage resources at the RCF, users must pass through the Ssh gateways.

The Ssh gateways consists of the following systems:

  • rssh01.rhic.bnl.gov
  • rssh02.rhic.bnl.gov
  • rssh03.rhic.bnl.gov
  • rssh04.rhic.bnl.gov

These systems accept only Ssh Protocol 2 connections. Each system has its own local copy of the home directories. Changes to your home directory on one system are NOT propagated to the other systems. However, since you never need to add or modify the contents of your home directory (except possibly in your .ssh directory) this is not a problem.

To access internal RCF resources, ssh into one of the Ssh gateways and then ssh to the internal RCF system.  A subset of the linux farm nodes is open to interactive login.  The most efficient way to access these nodes from the gateway is through the rterm utility.  This program leverages the load monitoring capability of the LSF batch system to select automatically the "least-loaded" node for login.

For your convenience, round robin aliases are provided to help spread the load over the gateway systems. The alias rssh.rhic.bnl.gov rotates among the four systems. As additional gateways are added, they will be added to the round robin list.

A list of Ssh clients is given in the Ssh FAQ. For RCF Users, a Web browser based (Java) Ssh client is available from the RCF (Note that you need an RCF account to access the Ssh client.)
