As a user of the RCF facility, you have been assigned three passwords, a Kerberos 5 password, an NIS/Unix password, and an email password. If you are on site at BNL and use the SMB file service facility, you will also have an SMB password. Unfortunately, due to technical limitations, these passwords are managed separately and CANNOT be the same. In addition, because they serve as the keys to the facility, you need to choose a good password. The Kerberos 5 password is your main password to the facility. It can be used to log in to the systems and to access AFS resources. The NIS/Unix password is a legacy password that the vast majority of users will not need. It will be removed from the facility very soon. The email password is used to access mail on the RCF IMAP server (rcf.rhic.bnl.gov). |
